An easy way to make fires in LEGO is by using the specialist pieces; parts in transparent orange that resemble flames (see picture below).
However, we can recreate more realistic fires using other transparent pieces in colour such as trans orange, yellow and red. As seen in one of the pictures, this can come together to create a raging fire that has much more life than a few flame pieces.
Other parts that can add to the fire are trans black pieces which create the illusion of smoke coming from the fire. These can be built up and if you choose the right pieces can look very realistic. To show charred material such as burnt wood in your MOC, you can also use solid black in place of brown.
