#196 Favourite Brick Friday: 99563 1x2 Ingot

This week's favourite brick is the 1x2 ingot, or technically called the "Minifig Utensil Gold Ingot" on Bricklink. Just like many other textured (not completely flat) pieces, the 1x2 ingot has a unique use, as well as looking good on the exterior of builds.

Due to the 1x2 ingots shape, they look great when multiple are used, as an up-and-down texture is created. They are therefore great for borders of MOCs, or outliners of a building.

The unique use, which I discovered while building this year's Star Wars Advent Calendar, is small and subtle yet can be highly useful in given situations. As seen in the picture, the 1x2 ingot is used on top of a SNOT brick, and 1x2 modified plates with handles are attached to that. The ingot allows the modified plates to be used but still have a smooth surface on the SNOT brick. Any other tile would not fit in the gap, due to the shape and size of the modified plate that recedes over the edge of the SNOT brick. Even though this is only a small detail, sometimes that can be all it takes to elevate your builds.

So not only is it useful for the aesthetics of large scale MOCs, but also as a trick to include details into micro scale builds.
