#2498 TECHNIQUE ANALYSIS: The Traveler by @legohobbitfan

Settle back and enjoy the ride as we explore this gorgeous MOC by @legohobbitfan. We’ll explore the techniques used for the cascading water, the rocky terrain, the beautiful stone bridge, and much more.

explore the 2022 Best Teen Creation from BrickWorld Chicago! Image shows a covered wagon traveling across an arched stone bridge. A waterfall cascades in the background, with tall trees.

1x1 rounded slopes are used for bridge curbing. The arch face is built with slopes and plates. 1x1 and 1x3 slopes are tucked in upside down to help fill in the cracks. Brick-bending forms the base of the arch: bricks turned on their sides, not completely connected. This gorgeous rock bridge spans a rushing river. Rockwork uses slopes of all kinds! Image shows a close-up of the stone bridge.

The center-focus of this MOC is a horse-drawn carriage. The roof of the carriage uses regular and inverted slopes. Window lattice forms the side of the carriage! The horse harness makes use of clips and bars. The reins use a string with end studs, looped around the horse’s neck. Image shows a close up of the horse-drawn carriage.

This MOC was designed to break down into 10 sections for transport. When put together, this MOC has a base of 42x42 studs and stands 55 bricks high! If you look closely, you might be able to see where some of the sections separate! The carriage carries a variety of supplies for a traveler: rope, work bench, and even a frying pan! A 1x4 macaroni tile spans the back and features a 1x3 container (part 69066). Image shows the carriage from multiple views, including from behind and above. A brown container element is highlighted.

Trees are built by interlocking the leaves. For a step-by-step tutorial, check out our Tree Techniques book! The treetops use 1x1 SNOT bricks with cheese wedges. 2x2 round bricks with a grilled pattern help make the trunk sturdy for stability. Image shows a full view of the MOC, focusing on the trees.

Underneath these trans-clear plates are a combination of blue and white plates, which help bring about both the look of peaceful flowing water and agitated, foamy water. The water creates a cascading look by using a combination of stacked 1x1 round plates, SNOT bricks with clear 1x2 plates, and clear 1x2 bricks. Cheese wedges help provide angular visual motion. Image shows a close up of the water and highlights several of the clear parts, including cheese wedges and 1x1 round plates.

Little details matter! A minifig tree headwear becomes a fallen log in the forest. Tiny toadstools and cobbles line the forest floor. Two creeks feed into the main waterfall, keeping the eye moving.
