Today's technique is from a user called polwen on Flickr, who has created an great little MOC called "It Came From Below"
As well as the awesome imagery of a monster appearing from beneath the ground, you can notice some destruction of the building. The builder has purposely loosely connected plates to show how they are now unstable and that the building is falling about. Multiple layers of regular and wedge plates are used to show the buildings many levels and the beasts destruction.
