This week's favourite brick is a very common but versatile piece, the 2x2 round plate. Chances are, if you're reading this, you'll own a LEGO set with one of these pieces in as they've appeared in nearly 2100 sets since 1980.
As well as their obvious use as circular plates, they can be used for a number of techniques. The first is very simple, and just uses them to create an interesting border around a MOC. This works especially well for sand as shown in Deborah Higdon's microscale train bookends: https://www.flickr.com/photos/buildingsblockd/7231931834/in/album-72157629670097878/
The second technique is a completely different use altogether; creating a flexible surface that can be a roof, the sea or anything else you can think off. Created by jaapxaap on Flickr, it utilizes the 2x2 round plate so that when it is attached to a net, it's shape allows the net to flex but still have pieces connected.
