I've covered a lot of water techniques on this blog, but I've never seen one quite like this, that’s both simple and dramatic.
1x2 transparent tiles and other smaller pieces are usually used in water, but Vlad Efremkin on Flickr has instead angled them to result in waves crashing against the miniature ship. The 1x1 clear transparent plates do well to contrast to the light blue, showing the natural and unpredictable nature of the water. What's more, this technique is very easy to make for yourself; no instructions needed, just stack tiles and plates against each other. Try it out next time you're creating water, as this technique would make for some great rivers too!
