#765 TECHNIQUES: Creating sandy environments

Sand has always been something that is quite hard to create in LEGO, and although you could just have layers of plates that can look quite good, today we're sharing two methods of using slopes to create sandy environments.

The first example by Sarah Beyer and only uses regular plates as well as 1x2 curved slopes. These pieces contrast well, and with some orange leaves mixed in it looks much better than if she were just to use plates. The second example by david zambito is more complicated, using a range of slopes and Studs Not On Top building techniques to eliminate all studs from the design. I especially love the mix of dark orange slopes and dark tan pieces that provide some variety to the sand and blend well into the house.
