#1610 TIPS: History of the Bracket

*Correction: the first appearance of the part was in 1987, Brickset listed 1992 and we should have double checked it*

The LEGO System has given us many weird parts over the years (just ask the early 2000s), many of which have come and gone. Some bricks stay due to their aesthetic appeal, while others prove to be so useful that they change the way sets are designed forever.

The LEGO brackets are a perfect example of this. You’d be hard pressed to find a car, a dragon, a building or a spaceship that doesn’t use them today! But where did it all begin?

The story of LEGO brackets starts off modestly and unassumingly but ultimately becomes the story of one of the most versatile brick designs of the last two decades!

There’s a lot we can learn from it, so let’s get started!
