Double review time! We compare the newest LEGO plants, part of a future series of 4 that will also include Bamboo and another Orchid. We find that the Chrysanthemum is superior to the Plum Blossom in technique, but the latter wins in accuracy. Overall, both are truly excellent sets, affordable and perfectly compact. Slide 1: Number 2465 SET REVIEW: 10368 Chrysanthemum and 10369 Plum Blossom. Double review time! We compare the newest LEGO plants, part of a future series of 4 that will also include Bamboo and another Orchid. The Chrysanthemum has 278 parts and earns a 23 out of 25, and the Plum Blossom has 327 parts and earns a 22 out of 25. Both are £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99. We find that the Chrysanthemum is superior to the Plum Blossom in technique, but the latter wins in accuracy. Overall, both are truly excellent sets, affordable and perfectly compact. Do you agree with our reasonings? Let us know in the comments! Slide 2: Chrysanthemum part selection. The mum earns a 5 out of 5.The Botanical Collection has yet to disappoint with introducing new elements. No new parts, but the Chrysanthemum has 13 recolors in substantial quantities - stupendous for a $30 set! The new banana gradient from reddish orange to orange to bright light orange is delightful. We also love the 1x2 round tile in dark green. Slide 3: Plum Blossom part selection. The plum earns a 5 out of 5. The Plum Blossom has no new parts, but has 9 recolors, also excellent for a $30 set. While this is less recolors than the Chrysanthemum, the rare parts in the Plum Blossom are better, and there are more parts overall in the Plum Blossom! Plus, Technic Connector 3 in Dark Brown is a super useful recolor if you want to create your own botanicals. Slide 4: Chrysanthemum techniques. The Chrysanthemum uses many clever techniques for the vase! Reverse studs to secure the vase, using 1x1 clips and 1x1 tile with bar. The top sections of the vase are secured via a red axle. The metallic gold band around the vase is built with 1x4 SNOT bricks and 3x1 slopes. 2x1 slopes with cutouts smooth off the circle. Slide 5: Chrysanthemum techniques continued. Fantastic part use of the cupcake liner for a flower bud! Claws clip around two octagonal frames, layering for a larger blooming flower. For the biggest flower, 3 recolored bananas clipped to octagonal frames and a wheel creates varying tiers, and the effect is brilliant! For a $30 Botanical set, the Chrysanthemum has some of the best NPU, as well as an innovative vase build! The mum scores a 5 out of 5 in techniques. Slide 6: Plum Blossom techniques. Technic connects vase similarly to the Chrysanthemum. The technic build for the branchy stem is familiar for stemmed botanicals, but with a very organic shape using curved trunk elements! The flower technique uses a twig inserted through a Sonic ring into the new ⅔ D SNOT brick. The Plum Blossom has a similar base build, but less interesting as it involves no stud reversal. The construction of the flower is splendid, but not new if you own the Flower Trellis GWP! The plum scores a 3 out of 5 on techniques. Slide 7: Chrysanthemum accuracy. 1.The gradient of bananas is the best possible part use for the main flower, but this set is not going to trick people into thinking it is a real flower. It looks quite plastic. 2.The bud is extremely effective with the cupcake liner! 3.The serrated leaf part is not perfect, but a great representation of the Chrysanthemum’s leaves. The mum scores a 4 out of 5 on accuracy. Slide 8: Plum blossom accuracy. 1.The shaping of the flowers with boat studs and the buds with peaches is absolutely perfect! 2.The stem is wonderfully twiggy. 3.Technic connectors are perfectly angled to create an organic, twisted form. The plum scores a 5 out of 5 on accuracy. Slide 9: Value for money. The pricing for both sets of £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 feels very fair for the size- both are 3/5 the size of the Orchid which is 20 pounds/dollars/euros more. However, a few retailers currently sell the Orchid at $40, a way better deal! Both the mum and the plum score 4 out of 5 in value for money. Slide 10: Final thoughts. These are compact, elegant flowers with gorgeous vases. Both are desirable display pieces that pair together immaculately! The instructions also hint we will be getting a Bamboo plant and another Orchid in the future, which only amps up the display value! Both the mum and the plum score a 5 out of 5 in display value. The Chrysanthemum wins overall with a 23 out of 25, but we highly recommend purchasing the 22 out of 25 Plum Blossom as well. Plus, we will be getting two more in this series! Will you collect them all?
